MILNET Brief:
Iranian Army Bases, 06/10/2008

The following table lists the known Iranian Army Bases and includes uses, GPS information, a link to Google Earth, as well as a static photo taken from the Google Earth Satellite libraray on June 9, 2008.  Visitors to this page should note that finding any military base in Iran is difficult to say the least.  We estimate these locations and use of longitude and latitude implies an accuracy we do not actually have for most of the bases listed here.  In fact, some are guesses based upon general locations where bases might be according to the information on nearby cities, towns or villages as well as province. We could be WELL away (as in the totally wrong area) from the actual location.  We are endeavoring to find confirmation of each of these sites...information for the exisence of actual bases is qutie accurate, only the actual real world physical location is in question. Having said that, many of the Army bases, once located are usually well organized areas that look like heavy industrial zones with extremely well aligned physical interlocation between buildings and usually with some sort of headquarters building and flagpole.  And of course, most bases have some sort of wall or fencing around them.  Typically found are barracks, defensive positions and revetments, however many non-miliitary compounds in Middle Eastern countries will have geographical features that, from the air, look like walled in fortresses but are actually isolation from bandits or religious grounds.  This makes identificaton by land features alone nearly impossible without prior information as to the general whereabouts of a military base.  Of course, typical open source material such as news reports or weapons testing/arms sales information may disclose the name and area where a particular base is found.  And finally, some Army Bases may be co-located or very nearby support airfields that are actually operated by the Iranain Air Force, and therefore, from the air, are difficult to distinguish between area defense or Air Force facilities rather than a full blown Army Base

Note:  The names of the Iranian Naval comes from an article on GlobalSecurity.org and Wikipedia, and the locations are the military sections found on a typical "shared" airstrip found on Google Earth.  You may need to download the Google Earth viewer in order to look at the Google Earth satellite link...a screenshot link is included for those without high speed Internet Access.  * indicates low confidence on association between base's name and function. ** inidcates position is wholly inaccurate, more along the lines of "somewhere within a kilometer from here".
