MILNET Brief:
Iranian Naval Bases, 06/09/2008

The following table lists the known Iranian Naval Bases and includes uses, GPS information, a link to Google Earth, as well as a static photo taken from the Google Earth Satellite libraray on June 9, 2008.  Visitors to this page should note that finding any military base in Iran is difficult to say the least.  We estimate these locations and use of longitude and latitude implies an accuracy we do not actually have for most of the bases listed here.  In fact, some are guesses based upon general locations where ships MIGHT be military ships and therefore imply our chose of geography is correct. We could be WELL away (as in the totally wrong area) from the actual location.  We are endeavoring to find confirmation of each of these sites...information the actual bases is not at all inaccurate, only the actual real world physical location is in question.  Having said that, most of the island's don't offer much in the way of error...for instance, most of the satellite photos are only a few years old, thus maritime facilities are not likely to have changed much in that time (3-5 years to fully create an operational facility for a naval base is perhaps the best guess).  GlobalSecurity.com has also stated that the Iranians moved their naval headquarters and major facilities  in 1977, "n 1977 the bulk of the fleet was shifted from Khorramshahr to the newly completed base at Bandar-e Abbas, the new naval headquarters." 1
