Databases



MILNET presents a list of the databases available on the site.  Most were created in the 1980s and subject to updates over time and should be current (unless noted otherwise) through 2004.

AAMs
Air-to-Air-Missiles (Includes NATO and major power's offerings)
AGMs
Air-to-Ground Missiles (Includes NATO and major power's offerings)
Aircraft
A summary of the major bombers, ground attack fighters, air superiority fighters and transport aicraft used by the nations of the world.  Does not include commercial airliners or small planes - unless of course they have been added to military inventory by a major nation (ie. the KC-10 extender aerial refueling tanker is a DC-10 cargo version modified for use by the USAF).  The page includes links to stealth, exotic aircraft, engine technologies, and other aviation topics.
Battlefield Missiles A general look at missiles launched from the battlefield including man portable (MANPAD), does not include ICBMs, MRBMs, or SLBMS.(these are covered in Strategic Missiles)
Categorized Search Database
An Internet research tool used by MILNET to store links found in our research, the Categories Database contains results of web searches organized by category-sub-category and includes hot links, a summary of the what the particular link provides and in many cases a look at the overall web sites goals.  This allows researchers to eliminate "false returns", links found in internet searches that have nothing whatsoever to do with their searches.  Of course the database focuses on things MILNET visitors come to expect: Military, Weapons (aircraft, tanks, missiles, bombs, rockets, ships, nuclear, bio-chem,), Intelligence, Terrorism, Special Forces, etc.
Chem-bio Agents
Summary of the various chembio agents with symptoms and general mortality information
Fighters
Fighter Aircraft (Includes NATO and major power's offerings)
Domestic Terrorist Profiles
A survey of active domestic groups including eco-terrorists and the like.  Text describes the roots and common links between a number of domestic terrorist groups
International Terrorist Group
Derived mostly from the U.S. Department of State's Patterns of Global Terrorism lists, with updates between reports or those not officially on the lists but whom are active enough to get MILNET's and the world press' attention.
Main Battle Tanks
A brief summary of the main battle tanks in use around the world
Major Documents
A listing of the major documents of interest that have been mirrored on MILNET - they may disappear from the internet as things get moved around, but you can always find them in the same place here on MILNET.
NATO Aircraft Database NATO alliance aircraft inlcudes all the NATO treaty nations' offerings.
Nuclear Weapons FAQ
Carey Sublette's excellent survey of nuclear weapons including history, intricacies of weapons design and construction, effects, and nuclear nations.
Space Based Weapons
A speculative look at current and future space based weaponry.
Strategic Missiles A summary of the world's strategic missiles, those capable of delivering nuclear weapons, as well as some data on MIRVs.
UAV Database
A survey of the major Unmanned Aerial Vehicles of the world
USV Concept
A speculative document looking at early versions of what might someday be called Unmanned Space Vehicles.  Includes existing and future launch vehicles, on-orbit, support and a look at some commonalities between major systems in UAV, USC, and UUV developments.
UUV Directory
A survey of the current U.S.  military (or military capable/derived ) Unmanned Underwater Vehicles
U.S. Military Satellites A summary of the U.S.' on-orbit assets, includes "leaked" information on various ISR (Intelligence Surveillance, Reconaissance) assets.
U.S. Navy Ships
An aaward winning survey of the U.S. Navy capital ships, with silhouettes and a detailed descrpition of the most recent class vessels.  Includes carriers, amphibious docking ships, cruisers, destroyers, frigates and submarines.  Also includes a brief look at future ships such as DDX and CVX.  Focus is on surface combatants, and thus does not cover tankers, replenishment ships, smaller troop carrirer or cargo vessells.
Weapons of 2025
A database and text describing the weapons of the future including Directed Energy Weapons, Kinetic Energy Weapons, EMP weapons, Solar Energy Weapons, and others.
