Description

Highly militant anti-government , white supremicist  group which proposes the violent overthrow of the U.S. government using bank robberies and armed resistance, and the killing of non-whites.  Founded by Richard Butler in the mid 1970s, the group also believes it will re-populate the country through its progeny, preaching pologomy.  May have had ties to the Branch Davidians (Waco, Texas - David Koresh)

Activities

In the period of 1/94 through 12/95 robbed some 22 banks in seven states netting more than $250,000.  On 2/12/97, member Peter Langan was found guilty of five counts of bank robbery and using explosives in a bank robbery.  Indictments in other states have been handed down as well.

Scott Stedford, also a member was sentenced 1/97  to 10 years in prison for bank robberiesein Des Moines, Idaho.

Chevie and Cheyne Kehoe, brothers form Colville, Washington shoot it out with police on two occasions. Chevie Kehoe is later convicted of murder of an Arkansas gun dealer.

Buford Furrow opens fire in a Jewish family center wounding five children and then later guns down a mailman, Ismael Ileto of Philipino descent in the street.

In the fall of 2000, in Kootenai County, Idaho, a jury awarded a civil judgement of $6.3 million against Aryan Nation founder Butler and three former member for a 1998 attack on non-white mother and son.  The verdict bankrupted Butler and forced the sale of his 20 acre compound

Nationwide, but the primary headquarters was centered around Butler's 20 acre compound in Idaho.  Since the backruptcy, the group has splintered into smaller regional groups.
