Domestic TERRORIST GROUP PROFILES

MILNET

Branch Dividians (BD)

Thought to be disbanded

From: Domestic Terror:  What It Holds For The New Millennium, an original report from MILNET at http://www.milnet.com/milnet/domestic/Dom-Terror.htlm

Description

Highly militant, religious cult, anti-government.  Founded by Stephen Howard, a.k.a. David Koresh, a self styled messiah based very loosely on some of the teachings of the Church of Jesus Christ and the Latter Day Saints.  To protect themselves against government agents, the group collected semi-automatic weapons and kits to convert to automatic fire as well as arson devices and ammunition.

Activities

When ATF agents attempted to arrest the leaders in Waco, Texas for illegal weapons charges and child endangerment, four agents were killed and 15 others wounded.  A second attempt a few months later on April 19, 1993, led by FBI agents at the permission of U.S. Attorney General Janet Reno, resulted in another firefight.  Eventually during the battle, fires broke out in the rickety structures and the remaining 70 cult members and Koresh were consumed by fire.  Radical militia groups throughout the U.S. cite this as a day of infamy, and bomber Timoty McVeigh timed his bomb to bring down the Federal Building in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma on the anniversay of the "Waco Texas Massacre".
