Mirror Copy of DoD (CENTCOM) Overview

Note: Large amounts of heavy equipment such as main battle tanks, artillery, etc. are presumed to have been left behind at the conclusion of the Gulf War. Some of this material would naturally be "owned" by the U.S. as prepositioned war goods, however, it is also thought that a substantial percentage of equipment was sold on the spot to Egypt, Saudi Arabia, and/or Kuwait.

One of the larger and more powerful Arab Nations, Egypt tends to be a major leader in the Middle East, and when Anwar Sadat made peace overtures to Israel, it marked a major turning point in the history of the Middle East. Unfortunately, Sadat paid with his life, a terrorist bomb killing him during a military parade and review. Since his death, unrest throught the arab nations and incursions into Israel have continued.

The data below was verified in 1984. Obviously it is obsolete. We include it here, however, as a measure of the forces available at that time. We will endeavor to update that information as soon as we can given our other goals for MILNET. See the DoD (CENTCOM) analysis for more precise and up-to-date information.
