EDITORIAL: ELECTION A BIG STEP TOWARDS DEMOCRACY

(Anees, 20 Oct 04) - Although many people were not very optimistic about the election, people's attention and care made it a very important happening in the history and fate of the nation. The election was a turning point from the stage of war and disorganization to peace and stability. The participation of more than 10 million people shows that almost all those eligible for voting took part in the election. This could be considered a big step towards democracy, where people practiced the first step with much success. So, this event is not only important for the present generation but also for the country's next generations.

EDITORIAL: INTERNATIONAL COMMUNITY MUST NOT FORGET AFGHANISTAN

(Arman-e-Milli, 18 Oct 04) - There is no doubt that terrorists were given the opportunity to organize and control their activities from Afghanistan after the Taliban came to power in the country. The international community did not react seriously about them even they were active in so many different parts of the world. On the contrary, the international community was trying to have good relations with the Taliban through Pakistan - their only supporter in the world. After 11 September 2001, the international community - and particularly the United States - realised that the Taliban were a serious threat to humanity. So, US-led Coalition Forces deposed them. But they are still supported by some extremist circles in Pakistan. Now Afghans want the international community to combat terrorism in the country with the precise understanding of their activities and not to forget our nation at this stage.
