The following table lists events that have occurred of import in the Middle East since April 31, 2002.  The events do not include events relating to the pullout of Israeli tansk and troops from various Palestinian sections, nor abortive events such as the near conclusion of the siege of the Church of Nativity in Jeruselum.  New events in those ongoing situations will be covered however.

05/08/2002 Iran According to an Associated Press story, the U.S. is tracking a new Iranian missile development, the Shahab-4 medium-range ballistic missile (MRBM) with a range of 1,250 miles.  The story claims that the new missile could be upgraded to threaten Czech Republic, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Italy and Poland. 05/08/2002 Jordan Police captured 4 Palestinians smuggling Soviet-manufactured machine guns, rocket launchers and rockets in the town of Aqaba. P-AP
05/09/2002 Lebanon A relatively crude bomb was set off outside a Kentucky Fried Chicken restaurant in Tripoli. No one was injured. MSNBC-

5/19/2002 Israel 3 killed in suicide bombing in a market in Netanya, bomber dressed as soldier, 56 wounded, nine seriously. PFLP claimed responsbility P-H
5/20/2002 Yemen U.S. troops have arrived to begin training Yemeni troops in anti-terrorism -- some 30 Army Green Berets are expected to being training within the next two weeks and dozens to join later. P-AP
5/20/2002 Israel In Jenin, a suicide bomber is surrounded at a checkpoint and blows himself without hurting anyone else FOX
5/21/2002 Iraq U.S. fighter attacks Iraqi radar site with precision guided weapons after a SAM was fired at two U.S. fighters.  The U.S. central command confirmed the destroyed site had the ability to "share information with other systems." P-AFP
5/21/2002 Lebanon Jihad Jibral, the son of PFLP leader Ahmed Jibril  was killed by a car bomb in Beirut, possibly linked to an Israeli Assasination squad. P-MENL
5/21/2002 Israel Dr. Riad Abdelkarim an American doctor from California was released by Israel.  The doctor had been held for two weeks for his alleged ties to Palestinian terrorists P-AP
5/22/2002 Israel Suicide Bomber kills self plus one and injures 19 at first count on pedestrain walkway in Rishon Letzion near Tel Aviv FOX + NYT
5/22/2002 Israel Mahmoud al Titi, a leader of the Al Aqsa Martyrs Brigade was killed along with three other Palestinians when Israeli troops attacked near Nablus P-UPI

5/28/2002 Israel 3 Israeli  students killed by bunfire at a West Bank High School near the Itmar settlement which is near Nablus.  The shooter was also shot and killed MSNBC
5/28/2002 Iraq Iraq claims to have brought down a Predator UAV using electronic interference, U.S. denies the claim P-CNN
5/28/2002 Iraq Iraq has moved troops and anti-aircraft batteries into the northern and southern portions of the country in more apparent moves to counter any U.S.-led military offensive. Troops, tanks and artillery have been deployed according to opposition group Iraqi National Congress (INC). P-MENL
