MILNET presents a list of AFI Research News Coverage for the Middle East in reverse chronological order.
On September 11th, 2001, members of the Osama Bin Laden led terrorist group Al-Qaida, boarded three jet aircraft, took over the crews and hijacked the aircraft. Two aircraft slammed into the Twin Towers of the World Trade Center, the towers eventually suffering catastrophic failure, falling to the earth in a cascade failure floor upon floor. A third jet plunged into the side of the U.S. Military's Pentagon building. A fourth hijacking was kept from doing similar damage by brave passengers who are thought to have overpowered the hijackers on their plane, but for some reason the plane crashed in a field in Pennsylvania.
Understandably, the news for the next two weeks focused on this tragedy, with some 2,000 to 3,000 person thought to be killed that day.
