To provide a fair and balanced summary, MILNET is happy to publish this
statement from Dorothy Robinson of Clan na Gael.
"Clan na Gael categorically and emphatically denies the allegations stated here. We have never raised money on behalf of the so-called Real Irish Republican Army, nor have we caused such money to be raised, nor do we have any knowledge of it being done. The organization has made it abundantly clear to its members that they are not to engage in any illegal activity, and if they are found to be involved in such activity they will be dismissed. The Clan was founded in 1867, and is the world's oldest Irish Republican organization, pre-dating even the Irish Republican Brotherhood. It is proud of the part it has played in the struggle for Irish freedom, from the 1875 rescue of the Fenian prisoners in Australia, to the development of the first submarine (the "Fenian Ram"), to the funding of the 1916 Rising, and so on.
Times change, however, and while the Clan will endeavor to hold true to the Republican principles as first expressed by Wolfe Tone we neither encourage nor condone illegal activity on the part of American support groups. This
would include funding any military or paramilitary group in Ireland. Media reports to the contrary are patently untrue.Clan na Gael National Executive"
