Behind the battle management staff, a Station 1000 bulkhead/airlock combination ensures separation between humans and the awesome power of the chemical oxygen iodine laser (COIL).
The section also features remote environmental monitoring and the airlock ensures maintenance does not contaminate the forward compartments of the aircraft. Chemical lasers are inherently dangerous, so this bulkhead is a key element in the aircraft construction and operation.
