The last pillar comprising USCENTCOM's overseas presence is Security Assistance. It provides an additional means of improving the defense capabilities of our friends, training regional military forces, promoting interoperability, gaining access, strengthening military to military relationships, and increasing the ability of states to provide for individual and collective defense.

There are four major elements of Security Assistance:
These activities support USCENTCOM's aim of building regional defense arrangements while providing a degree of U.S. control over arms transfers.
Central Command has about 1200 deployed personnel conducting security assistance programs in the region. The chart below shows the relative functional breakout of those personnel. This major effort at Security Assistance is conducted under the auspices of the country team and the logistics and security assistance staff at USCENTCOM headquarters.
