Intelligence: PHOTOINT Definition
PHOTOINT (Photographic Intelligence) is the collection of intelligence via overhead reconaissance, typically gathered by high flying aircraft or satellites. There are a number of ways photography aids in the reconaissance effort.
Obviously, the first is the spotting of a suspicious object on the film plate. But more often, it is the change noticed between sucessive photographs over a period of time. For instance if a barren field is photographed with infrared, then sometime later another picture shows a cooler spot there, it might mean that an underground bunker has been dug.
