Intelligence: TELINT Definition
TELINT or telemetry intelligence, is the collection and analysis of telemetry data from the target's missile or sometimes (rarely) from aircraft tests. The data gathered is typically sent from the test vehicle in order for ground crews to analyze how the test vehicle is performing and in the case of catastrophic failures provide very valuable information on what may have caused the failure. TELINT tells us a lot about our target's test vehicles, and thus telemetry from test vehicles is now encoded. Thus the decoding of TELINT usually must take place after the TELINT data is passed onto the de-crypting agency. In the U.S., this de-crypting probably takes place at the NSA.
