MILNET: Terrorist Groups

Profiles

The included database lists the more well known terrorist groups. It is a sad statement for life as we move into the last ten years of the twentieth century ...one cannot keep track of all the terrorist organizations that seemingly spring up overnight. See also those tasked with fighting terrorism.

Of all the terrorist groups, two have stood out as particularly vicious.

IRA

The first group, the Irish Republican Army (actually call themselves the "Provisional Irish Republican Army" or "Provos"), has been in existence longer than any other terrorist organization dating back to the time of the Norman Invasion. The IRA's reputation for death has been with us well before World War II, and in fact springs from contention for Erie in Midevial history.

Today, the battle is not just between Catholics and Protestants, but also against the British government which steadfastly refuses to give into the anarchy desired by the IRA.

It is clear that were the British submit to total home rule for Ireland today, with any of the groups calling for such release governing, that the island one soon become the home of a strong socialist-anarchist government threatening England's border from across the slight bit of water between the two.

Involved with the Irish battle are the Ulster, and various Irish Catholic and Irish Protestant organizations which send support to Ireland to continue the bloody battle.

In the last fifteen years, there as been at least one British soldier or policeman killed every month. The outrageous fact is only surpassed by the fact that in that same period one-tenth of the Catholics or Protestants killed were women or children.

The IRA holds the dubious distinction of killing more women and children through terrorist acts than any terrorist organization in the world.

4/95: Serious talks have begun between many of the groups and the British, and while it looks promising, a long road of negotiations lie ahead.

PLO

The second group, the PLO and its splinter groups Black September (also known as the PFLP - the Popular Front for Liberation of Palestine, in charge of assassinations), Al Fatah (in charge of guerilla operations), and the Fatah Revolutionary Council (Abu Nidal's extremely violent spin-off from the PLO), have spawned the most repugnant and vicious crimes against the world.

For instance, Al Fatah, a splinter group of radical palestinian terrorists has killed more people than any other terrorist organization.

Black September later known as the PFLP staged the Lod Airport Massacre killing 26 innocents and injuring 76 others, and as planned by one of the leaders at the time Abu Nidal, attacked the 1972 Summer Olympics in Munich, Germany killing 11 of the Israeli team and seriously injuring 3 others.

The FRC an even more violent splinter group is oppossed to anyone participating in a peace process, and is led by Abu Nidal, infamous for his group's

spectacular terrorist violence.

The Hezbollah, a Shiite Muslim organization currently headquartered in Lebanon was trained by the PLO and sponsored by Iran, has kidnapped more innocent citizens than any other organization in history. Rather than Israeli citizens or any world citizen of Jewish decent being the targets, Hezbollah has specialized in kidnapping westerners thus calling attention to what they call the "imperialist support for Zionism" and "anti-Muslim activities" by the western powers.

Governments Sponsoring Terrorism

The international community as labeled a number of countries as terrorist sponsoring governments, and has placed trade and travel embargos upon them. The U.S. government, for instance, lists the terrorist countries in the chief trade laws, prohibiting U.S. citizens or corporations from dealing with these countries. Of the governments sponsoring terrorism, a few stand out as particularly outrageous in their support of terrorism:
