According to LA Times, more than 270 Israelis and almost 1,000 Palestinians have been killed in the last 16 months

An Associated Press review of casualty figures during 16 months of Mid-East violence shows that 902 people have died on the Palestinian side and 256 have died on the Israeli side. The Palestinian figure includes 34 suicide bombers.

Israeli spokesman says the bombing only points out the need to continue operations despite the upcoming arrival of U.S. Secretary Colin Powell. U.N. and U.S. call for immediate withdrawel from Palestinian areas, however analysts believe Israel will not do so for several weeks.
4/05/02  Israeli units clash with Lebanese forces along the border. Lebanon begins to move large forces to bolster border defenses.

3/29/02  After four days of holding on retaliation, Israel attacks Arafat's headquarters. Israeli tanks surrounded Arafat's headquarters, and after the Israeli government declared Arafat an enemy, began pounding it with tank, rocket, and machine gun fire.
3/28/02  3 Israelis killed, 2 wounded by gunmen in Eilon Moreh The attack came on the fourth night of violence and occurred in an Israeli settlement in the West Bank. While Israeli tanks and troop carriers are on the move, there has yet been any retaliation
3/27/02  21 Israelis dead and hundreds injured at the Park Hotel restaurant in Netanya, killed by a suicide bomber in the third straight day of violence while Israel holds off on retaliation. Hamas claimed responsibilty, identifying the bomber as Abdel Baset Odeh, 25, from the West Bank town of Tulkarem. A Hamas spokesman said on a FOX interiew that no Israeli is innocent and proudly called the attack a courageous act in response to over a year of violence against the Palestinians. Reports of ongoing Israeli planning for retaliation include many saying that Arafat will be a target. Many analysts also believe the Israeli restraint was at its breaking point already and this event will push the government over the edge into all out war, unrestrained by any previous inhibitions. The initial count of the dead was 19, but two others succumbed to their wounds within 24 hours
3/26/02  2 Palestinian killed in their car when the bomb they are carrying goes off The pair were presumably carrying the bomb into populated area when stopped at a checkpoint near Jerusalem.  The vehicle led Israeli officials on a short chase and eventually the bomb went off.

The raids were a reprisal for the female suicide bomber attempt on Israeli Police and Soldiers at a well known Israeli checkpoint the day before.  Violence between Palestinian and Israeli soldiers broke out in the  town of Beit Jala, three miles south of Jerusalem, and Gilo which sits in an area Israel took from Jordan in the 1967 Middle East war. In Tulkarm, Israeli tanks were seen sourrounding the town.One Israeli soldier was killed in the fighting.

02/25/02 Palestinian girl was shot dead as she charged a checkpoint  Incident occurred at checkpoint in the West Bank.   The attacker, a 16-year-old Palestinian girl was killed when she ran toward an  army checkpoint near Tulkarem brandishing a knife, the army said. Soldiers shot her after ordering her to stop and shooting warning bullets in the air, the army said.

Arafat, from a powerless headquarters in Ramallah pleaded for U.N. intevention and requested the leaders of hte U.N. arab group (currently led by Yemen) and Syria to condemm Israel.  Non arab nations responses seem somewhat muted.

Massive Israeli strikes for the second day in a row.  Israel again pounded the headquarters of the Palestinian Authority with tanks firing machine guns, shelling from offshore naval ships.  Attacking Arafat's headquarters in Ramallah, helicopter gun ships flew sortie after sortie.  In Ramallah, witnesses said the missles struck a  one-story guesthouse just a few yards from Arafat’s office and sleeping quarters.The Voice of Palestine radio and television station was destroyed.  Tanks moved into to Sajeh neighborhoods near the Beach Refugee camp in the North and the Rafah Refugee Camp near Egypt  In this raid 4 Palestinians were killed with some some 35.  MSNBC reports loudspeakers on top of Mosques in the area pleaded with Palestinians to come out and fight the Israeli invaders.  After about 3 hours, the Israeli tanks began to pull out of Gaza.

The driver got out of the car, he said, the police "pulled out their guns, and he activated the car bomb by remote control." The    attacker and a policeman were killed.

The attack took place in Jebalya, the Gaza Strip. It is thought a fairly large number of Palestinian officials were present in the compound however no casualty figures were made available.

Palestinains attack Merkava-3 tank, killing three soldiers and an in a separate incident, an undercover elite commander. 
Many believe that, like the recent rocket attacks, will incite a rapid and thorough Israeli response. The undercover officer, Lt. Col. Eyal Weiss, was killed when a wall collapsed on him in a pre-dawn raid in Saida, a west bank, near the town of Tulkarem. Weiss was part of an arrest team that typically went into Palestine occupied areas and made surprise arrests. The attack on the armored vehicle was a lure job, with an explosive being set off near a convoy which was heading for a settlement, damaging a bus. The tank then rolled over a mine-like device, a 110 pound bomb.

Palestinian gunmen invade home in Jordan Valley home, kill 11 yr old girl, her mother, and an Israeli Army Reservist.
The home invasion occurred in Moshav Hamra, a farming community with some 35 Jewish familes living near the north end of Jordan Valley in West Bank. In response, Israeli F-16s fired two missiles at a Palestinian Authority complex in Nablus wounding 11 Palestinians. Gunmen then began to move down the streets of the community shooting at random terrorizing families there until finally killed by Israeli soldiers. Hours later gunships openned fire in response to militants being freed, supposedly to get them out of the line of fire.

Similiar missiles had been fired into Israel from the Gaza Strip. Army officials said the missiles were found in a Palestinian owned truck travelling from Nablus to Jenin, hidden amongst vegatables.
