MILNET Opinion:  The Hawks Solution for North Korea

Okay, so one of my extremely liberal neighbors, perhaps a little too under the eggnog, ventured to ask the token conservative in the neighborhood what I'd do about North Korea.  After carefully probing to make sure the rest of the audience was listening and really wanting to hear the rantings of the right wing nut in our little gathering, I proceeded to lay out the Hawk's View.

Needless to say, my neighbors were very quiet for a while and then politics was not discussed for the rest of the evening.  Later the offending neighbor quietly asked "do you think any of that will come to pass?"

"No not exactly", I said.  "If we ever get to the point where an embargo is necessary and we employ that tactic, the North will launch conventional missiles at South Korean targets and we'll probably have to decide where down the list to skip to -- I would then predict destruction of nuke plants and missile sites long before any ground war began.  But I don't have much hope the nut in the North will backoff.  Maybe the President will play diplomacy until next year, but I doubt it.  I doubt anyone has that much patience with leaders as dangerous as that guy in the North.  Merry Christmas."
