The Price Of Liberalism,  7/07/2005
Updated 8/05/2005

Note:  This opinion piece was completed at 1:12 am, PST, before knowledge of the attacks on London's Underground.  MILNET extends our heartfelt sympathy to Londoners and their families.  The Price Of Liberalism was inspired by reports on French and Canadian Muslim population growth, but as Fox News and MSNBC reported quite rightly, London England is also the home to a large number of would be terrorists.  Steve Emerson, reporting on MSNBC on 7/7/2005, pegged the problem quite adequately...any group of Islamic militants, he called them "Militant Jihadists", can sign up with Al Qaeda, commit an act of terror and become "Made Men" using the Mafia vernacular.  That is the new Islamic Terrorist in the 21st century, and it makes the War on Terror even more difficult to prosecute.  Emerson also predicted that many other European nations may feel the effects of similar attacks, this war is a long way from being over  -- Michael Crawford, Chief Editor, MILNET

The price of Liberalism is not a figment of conservative imagination.  The costs associated with looking the other way because of an abundance of over sensitivity to the proclivities of human behavior are enormous.  These costs don't always appear immediately and indeed may take decades before they appear.  Regardless, the price must be paid and usually these hidden costs come to haunt the liberal and in quantities that are nearly impossible to counter.

Take for instance the slow, plodding diplomatic approach to correcting Iran's nuclear weapons program.  The current approach has resulted from a tempered strategy that hoped for moderates to achieve more power in Iran.  Unfortunately, the so called elections in that country, a farce to begin with, only helped the moderates out the door and promises to usher in even more hardliners.  The oft used claim that diplamcy is being used to reach out to the moderates is now dead.  There are few moderates left in control now.  Is it not time to take off the gloves?

Is it no surprise then that the new leadership in Iraq has already stated they are not going to stop their "peaceful" nuclear program?  Of  course not.  In the case of Iran, the United States will have to do little.  In a short while, Israel will have tired of the diplomatic game, and its own national security concerns will force it to destroy the delivery and development capabilities of Iran's nuclear program.  The cost of a liberal, moderate approach to Iranian problem will be great angst and tension in the Middle East, as well as yet another uptick in Palestinian violence in retribution for Israel's actions against their Muslim brothers.  What has the U.S. to lose by getting far more beligerent with Iran?  The worst that can happen is that we might prevent a new Middle East war by showing Israel we are getting tough with Iran.  Either we get tougher, or Israel will.

But there is a far more insidious price to be paid for liberalism in several places in the world, and ledger figure is incessantly ticking up toward that payment date and the amount we pay will be as breathtaking as it is disastrous.

Answer this question for yourself.  What if there was a Middle Eastern nation in the heart of Europe on right next door to America, complete with radical Islamic schools teaching its youth the finer points of the Jihad, including the desirability of killing wholesale, Europeans and Americans?

A recent report from an agency in France 1 has provided the clues as to the problem, and the costs can be calculated rather easily.  With some 6 million Muslims in France today, and better than 90% being taught in radical Wahhabist style Madrasah (like a mandatory christian catechism class).  This is a huge population of would-be Jihadists being educated in the mold of Osama Bin Laden and Musab Al-Zarqawi.  The price to be paid?  Run a video of the Twin Towers falling -- is that a stark enough reminder?  If 19 Jihadists trained in the Wahhabist method could do that, what will 4 to 5 million do?

The combination of these to facts -- 4 to 5 million would be Jihadists in France and Iran nearing the point where it can begin selling nuclear materials on the black market to any Jihadist who wishes to build a dirty bomb or god forbid a full out nuclear weapon, and you have the formula for a disaster magnitudes greather than 9/11.

Here in the U.S. we have our own formula being brewed.  Even after 9/11, the liberalized American government regulations have helped hide Jihadists in this nation.  As Steve Emerson pointed out, there are Jihadist training schools in major cities all over the U.S.

That isn't the end of that story either.  Recently it has been disclosed (as if it this cost wasn't already apparent in 2000 when Ressam was caught at the Canadian border) that Canada's swelling terrorist population rivals that of France.  Not only your typical Jihadist, but other groups such as the Tamil Tigers have found sanctuary in cities in Canada.  Perhaps it is a coincidence -- doesn't it disturb you that many of the provinces of Canada are French speaking and at least one had tried to secede from Canada and become a French territory?  Is there some French gene that causes liberal insanity?

MILNET believes the problem that exists is "Liberalism is in panic".  When their mindset approaches that of a spoiled, willful child, they see things much differently than the adults in the world.  When the world does not go the way they want it to, they ignore the warning signs, they ignore case after case that proves their Liberalism is costing us all greatly.  Eventually, in order to bolster their spirit, they have to completely rewrite events to color them with the Liberal paintbrush.  Then and only then can they face the world and have hope for further "improvements" in the Liberal agenda.  The end result is to throw open the doors of liberalism and invite everyone into their living room for a group hug.  Unfortuantely, it appears a lot of those accepting the invitation carry knifes and are happy to slip it in while they give you a smiling embrace.

Unfortunately, decades of liberal thinking in Canada have made it the second most popular haven for terrorists outside the Middle East.  The recent report in France tells us that France is number one.  Where are terrorists more prevalent?  Well, there are plenty in Africa,  Southeast Asia, and of course, the Middle East -- Iran, Iraq, Syria and yes Pakistan.

The costs of Liberalism arise even in Conservative administrations.  The possibility that nearly a third of all Americans wish for Liberal ideals creates a liberalized conservative party. The government, wishing to remain popular with nearly half the country, takes tender, tentative steps in order to appeal to that minority, forgetting the basic rule this country was founded upon, majority rule.  The result is a less than forceful approach to Iran, a hands off approach to North Korea, an oversensitive approach to the growing Jihadist problem inside our own borders, and yes, the borders on the North and South are still incredibly porous.

Perhaps the current administration is not concerned with the possibility of border crossings by terrorists, because they have seen statistics that say there are plenty already here.  Perhaps Steve Emerson's numbers in 2001 were several magnitudes too low.

And if a little town like Lodi actually has been a stopping off point for Jihadists infiltrating this country, then how many other small U.S. towns with Muslim populations are also the unwitting cover for other Jihadists?  Of course, in comes that Liberal angst -- "this sounds like religious profiling, we can't do that  The FBI is out of control and persecuting those poor Muslims.  Imagine the big bully government leaning heavy on the poor ice cream vendor!  Unacceptable!"  The liberal cry is already heard in and around Sacramento where the alleged Lodi terrorists are to be tried.

Never mind that the guy's son may indeed have confessed to his crimes.  MILNET is sure we'll see a blog somewhere soon that will claim the FBI tortured the Hayats to get their confessions.  The liberal angst will invent government evil to explain away the possibility that there just might be a would-be Muslim terrorist living in California, the second most liberal state next to Ted Kennedy's Massachusetts.

The price we pay for Liberalism is the fantasy world of see no evil, speak no evil, hear no evil.  The three monkeys are alive and well in America, and we are pretty sure they work for the Jihad while serving in the U.S. Legislative Branch..  Dick Durbin, Hillary Clinton and Ted Kennedy are our very own three monkeys and they will cost us dearly. What is almost as scary are their assistant monkeys in training, Howard Dean, Nancy Pelosi, and Carl Levin.

This array of Liberal brain power is staggering.  In essence, these six people are attempting to bring the U.S. governments to a grinding halt.  Within minutes of Justice Sandra Day-Oconner's retirement announcement, they all began to pledge a fight over the Supreme Court nominee to replace her.

Why is that important in the anti-terrorist world? There is a simple calculus at work here.

Liberal angst over the pursuit of terrorism both inside and outside of our borders is going to eventually lead to the U.S. Supreme Court.  It is inevitable. New laws written since 9/11 and enforcement of laws written from well before 9/11 have sent Libertarians and Liberals into a hysterical panic.

The greatest liberal weapon is legislation from the bench. The ninth and eleventh circuit courts of appeal have been the liberal tool for over half a century. Thus it will have to be the U.S. Supreme Court that will receive a challenge and decide to throw out such liberal court's decisions.

And that realization has caused the recent Liberal explosion.  The appointment of a new Supreme who is not a flaming liberal like O'Conner will mean a severe impact on the liberal disease that has swept the U.S. court system.  It won't be the end of liberalism in justice, but it will certainly put a crimp in their plans.

Look for an uptick in the shrill notes out of the Democratic party at levels we have never seen the likes of before.  Note how the next months will bring them out of the woodwork in unison.  Look for the three monkeys and their assistants standing together to tell us how they can't allow the President to appoint his choice for the bench.

What is sad, is that it is likely that a strong nominee will not be put forward by the Administration.  The media has claimed the President is a calmer, more mature President in his second term.  As a recent more conservative journalist proclaimed, "Comeback Cowboy George, America Needs You!"

The administration has to get tough.  Not tomorrow, but right now.  Close the border with Canada, cut off trade.  Tell the Canadian government that it has proven itself a hostile government and that by providing sanctuary to terrorists, they are now a terrorist nation.  Same goes for France.  It's not like the President hasn't warned the world that supporting terrorists puts them on the terrorist's side in the War on Terror.  Enough of this coddling the liberals in the world.  They killed thousands in our nation already, let's not repeat that mistake.

It is long past the time to go to war. You can fight with politics as well as you can with soldiers.  Let's go nuclear with diplomacy and go nuclear with the democratic filibuster and threats.  Call the bluffs, close the borders, take sanctions against any nation that allows Wahhabist teachings.  Wahhabism is the enemy of civilization and it is also long past the time to eradicate it from the face of our planet.  Not tomorrow, now, Mr. President!
