Item Number:8 Date: 12/03/2001 IRAN - NAVY PLANS TO TAKE DELIVERY OF NEW PATROL SHIPS (DEC 03/MENL) MIDDLE EAST NEWSLINE -- Iranian Vice Adm. Moharram Maequl said that Iran will obtain the Mouj attack craft for patrol in territorial waters in the Persian Gulf, Caspian Sea and Oman Sea, Middle East Newsline reports. Maequl, addressing a Navy Day gathering, said that the ship would help ensure Iranian military superiority in the region, as well as its control over the Straits of Hormuz, the Persian Gulf and the Arabian Sea. He also said that Iran's chief asset, three Kilo-class submarines, ensure Iran's reach throughout the Persian Gulf region.
