Qatar has no railroads. The country's road network links the capital, Doha, and the oil-producing centers of Umm Said and Dukhan with the northern sector of the peninsula. Highways also connect the country with Saudi Arabia that permits land access to the Gulf network.
Qatar's major ports are Doha, Umm Sa'id, and Ras Laffan. Doha is the country's main commercial port while Umm Sa'id is the primary petroleum export port.
Qatar's only airport with a permanent surface runway is Doha International Airport which handled over 1.6 million passengers in 1992. A new international airport is also being built in Doha and it is estimated to be completed in 1997.
