MILNET: VentureStar and ALI

The Venture Star program office has spun off a new project which may lead to the development of a space based laser attack system based upon the ALI (Alpha LAMP Integration) system. MILNET will update the information below as we are able to find public info available.

Name: ALI-Venture Star
Location: Kirtland AFB, New Mexico (near White Sands?), Philips Research Laboratory
Mission: Research feasability of installing the TRW ALI (Alpha LAMP Integration) chemical laser in the bow of the X-33 Venture Star as a tactical attack weapon against boost phase or on orbit targets.
Technology:   ALI (Alpha LAMP Integration) Hydrogen Flouride chemical Laser (from TRW), aimed with a Hughes 4 meter beam director telescope and the Lockheed Martin beam control system.
Tests: Research Phase only, no funding for proto or testing as of yet. May be related to the SCREMAR/SCHAFT concepts found in the Air Force 2025 future warfare proposals.
