Associations of the Lodi Five

Age:
43
Occupation:
Ice Cream Vendor (Ice Cream Truck Driver)
Born:
Pakistan
Migrated
To U.S. in , to Lodi, California
Current Charges:
Lying to FBI about his Son's activities, specifically about his son attending a Jihadist camp (1st said no camp, no training, then recanted after shown his son confessing to attending training and a camp).
Possible Further Charges:
According to the FBI Arrest Affadavit and the Indictment, Umer admitted to sending his son $100 per month as an allowance as the son, Hamid, was attending religious training and then later a camp for para-military training identified as "Jihadist Training".  Accoridng to the FBI affadavit, Umer stated that he "...paid for Hamid's flight and had provided him with an allowance of $100 per month, knowing his (Hamid's) intention to attend a jihadi training camp."
Knowingly paying for his son's flight and further providing funds to his son while attening a Jihadist training camp will most likley be interpreted by the U.S. courts as providing aid and support to terrorists, a) his son to attend and b) throught the allowance, to the camp.  Both are capital offenses under the Anti-Terrorism and Death Penalty Act of 1996.
Status:
In custody, Sacramento County Jail, being held pending status hearing in U.S. District Court Magistrate Judge Garland Burrell's court on July 1, 2005.
Associations:
Father in Law is Qari Saeed-ur-Rehman, a fairly well known cleric and head of the Jamia Islamia Madrassah in Rawlipindi, Pakistan. 6  Rehman and and an uncle are mentioned prominently in the government's affadavit.  Hamid's  Uncle Atiq ur Rahman who was a Mujadeen fighter  in Afghanistan fighting against the Russians. "Rehman is believed to be Maulana Fazlur Rehman Khalil, a Hezbi mujahedeen, who vowed revenge against the United States in 1998 after U.S. cruise missiles hit a training camp he operated in Pakistan in an attempt to kill al Qaeda founder Osama bin Laden. "  3 According to the recant of Umer, his father-in-law sends students from his Madrasah to the Jihadist training camp.  Also, the camp is run by Maulana Fazlur Rehman, a close personal friend of  the cleric Rehman (father-in-law).  Also, associated with Mohammad Adil Khan, a former Imam at the Lodi Mosque who broke with that Mosque and is named in a lawsuit alleging fraud ($100,000+) and Imam Shabbir Ahmed who has admitted to preaching against the U.S. in Pakistan (his statement that the vitoral was only intended to stop the Post 9/11 bombing by the U.S. in Afghanistan).  Ahmed is also alleged to be a student of one of the clerics who signed the Fatah used by Al Qaeda to justify its killing of Americans. Khan and Ahmed are being held on immigration chartes (failure to satisfy the terms of their visas).  Both men were detained after they met separately with Umer Hayat in the predawn hours Saturday 5

The Hayat's receive undisclosed financial support (and perhaps legal help) from CAIR - Council for American-Islamic Relations - whose membership includes a board member who has preached that the U.S. should become a caliphite of Islam as well as numerous other anti-American statements, and a convicted terrorist supporter.
Other Facts of Interest:
Umer, as Hamid was returning from Pakistan, had just completed the build on a new house in Pakistan.  U.S. Federal District Court Judge Peter A. Nowinski refused to grant bail to Umer and Hamid Hayat saying, "is both a flight risk and a danger to the community."  3
