Note: U.S. service force structures are going through a major upheaval, as part of the scaling down of forces due to the perceived reduction in threat from the Soviet Union. Therefore much of the data presented is pre-scaledown. Changes in force structure are occuring so quickly, it is nearly impossible to keep track. However, not much remains, so the cuts will have to stop soon, or there will be no military, a fact many officials in our government seem to favor.
