MILNET: Satellites - UHF Follow On Progam

The UHF Follow on program is a communications system for military voice and data communications to replace Fleet Satellite Communications system satellites. The satellites will carry 39 channels for communications and 10 spacecraft are ordered, with up to four possibly already in orbit.

The new satellites are designed with lower cost, lower power consuming systems, provide higher levels of security, yet are still compatible with the current satellite communications terminals still deployed. UFO-4 (according to Air Force Magazine 1) was the first to carry an EHF comms package offering an additional 11 channels.
